About me.
Petra Kwan (Lic.Ac., MBAcC)
I am a licensed traditional acupuncturist practising within the framework of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). I trained for five years and hold a first-class licentiate in Acupuncture – a professional, degree-level qualification – awarded by the City College of Acupuncture in London. This level 6 course is accredited by the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board (BAAB), ensuring comprehensive academic training in Chinese medical theory and practice, Western medical sciences, integrative practice, clinical training and research. As a registered member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), I am committed to upholding the highest standards of safety, integrity and ethical practice.
I have completed further training in auricular acupuncture with John Tindall, who introduced the NADA protocol into the UK, and in fertility acupuncture with Paul Johnson.
My connection to Chinese medicine began at the kitchen table, where it was naturally woven into daily life through food. Growing up in a Chinese household, I was immersed in seasonal and herbal ingredients and cultural practices that shaped my understanding of health and balance. This familiarity and my curiosity eventually led me to formal study of acupuncture, drawn by the depth and coherence of Chinese medicine.
Before training in acupuncture, I studied at the University of Oxford (MA Oxon) and the Courtauld Institute of Art (MA), where I developed a lasting appreciation for holistic thinking and the complexity of the human experience – values I carry into my clinical practice today.
I see acupuncture as a living practice – creative, evolving and shaped by ongoing discovery. It is a lifelong commitment to reflection, growth and continual learning. I stay engaged through professional development and further study, while also learning from my patients, who often bring the deepest insights and meaning to the work we share.
